Integrating ZyIMAGE with enterprise database management systems

This whitepaper presents a new application integration technology that is supported in ZyIMAGE 5.0 document management software. The technology is based on a plug-in architecture in which dynamic load modules can be developed that inject external document meta data in the ZyIMAGE search engine and document object model. First a short introduction to the object model is presented followed by a technical explanation of the plug-in architecture. The remaining part of the whitepaper illustrates the use of this plug-in architecture for enterprise application integration and for adding advanced functionality to the core ZyIMAGE software. A simplified enterprise application is explained in which an existing relational database management system is plugged into a document index. Advanced functionality is demonstrated by a plug-in that stores document meta data in an XML document that is “wrapped” around an electronic document. This plug-in manages the XML wrappers as a native XML database that has been indexed in an assisting index. Finally, a range of security plug-ins is described that can enhance the default security features of ZyIMAGE or that may implement specific company security policies.
